Becoming Legit

Bringing Social Media and Technology into Legitimacy BEHIND the firewall…

About

We work for a company with a several departmental silos. People in Customer Support have their troubles finding out what’s going on with Sales. People in Communications may have no clue what’s going on in Human Resources. And even within these departments — people on the same teams seem to be blind to the activities on one project if they’re on another. Despite the fact that so many people are duplicating efforts with a variety of means, in many cases bleeding money out of their budgets and creating more work for themselves, the company can’t seem to break down those information silos.

There are individuals who are blogging or use wikis who are bringing that technology in-house, but it’s all “under the radar” because there are policies, beliefs and corporate cultural taboos that forbid sharing information without “control” from the top-down.

Does this sound like you?

Like you, we found out purely by accident that there were a couple others like us in our company, playing around with social and collaborative technologies. We decided to band together, to push these activities into legitimacy and to dent the corporate culture to embrace knowledge building and knowledge sharing as good competencies to grow on. We also chose to blog about what we’re doing because we figure others might be struggling to do the same things.

Your feedback is really important in helping us find our way. If you find something in here that helps you, if you have a different experience to something we’re posting and/or if you have ANY questions — comment on the blog or write to us at becominglegit [at] gmail [dot] com.

Thanks,
